Director's Message

Welcome to the Program in Transnational Korean Studies! Jin-kyung Lee

Korean Studies is an interdisciplinary program in the language, linguistics, literature, culture and popular culture, film and visual arts, anthropology, communications, history, politics, economics, and international relations of the Korean peninsula. While our teaching and research focus on “Korea,” our program simultaneously emphasizes the peninsula’s historical and contemporary connections and relations to other cultures, races, nation-states, and empires. The program consists of 9 core faculty members and 7 affiliated faculty members from various departments.

We encourage you to take a look at the course offerings for this academic year. Once you have taken a couple of classes, you might be interested in considering the Korean Studies Minor as part of your undergraduate studies at UC San Diego. If you would like to explore Korean Studies Minor, please come in to ask questions and discuss the relevance of Korean Studies Minor to your future career paths with me. If you are thinking about participating in the Study Abroad Programs in Korea or if you would like to talk about anything else related to Korea, you are, of course, welcome to drop by!

Thank you and see you in our classes, public lectures and events, centering around this year’s theme of the Korean Wave, and during office hours!

Please join our Facebook page and mailing list to keep up to date on our program.
